Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine has been used for more than 2500 years in China to promote healthier lives and longevity. One of the oldest forms of health care; it is an integral component of Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Today, an increasing number of individuals are using herbal formulas to alleviate the symptoms of a variety of disorders. Herbal medicine can also help balance and strengthen the body, thus preventing disease from occurring in the future.

When used to facilitate healing, Chinese herbal medicine can treat a variety of conditions, including:

·  Respiratory (asthma, allergies, sinusitis)
·  Gynecology (infertility, menopause, PMS)
·  Pain (arthritis, migraines, low back pain)
·  Gastrointestinal (constipation, indigestion)
·  Pediatrics (eczema, chronic ear infections)
·  Dermatology (for adults and children, including conditions such as teenage acne and rosacea)
·  Emotional (depression, anxiety, insomnia)
·  Ear, Nose, & Throat disorders (colds & flu)

An herbal treatment begins with a complete evaluation to diagnose any imbalances in the body. The patient then receives a custom herbal formula tailored to treat the underlying cause of the disorder as well as the symptoms. The herbal formula is then adjusted as needed with each successive evaluation.

Chinese medicinal formulas use ingredients from plants, and occasionally from some animals, and minerals. Never are the ingredients from extinct or endangered species, and the majority of formulas are plant-based. The most common method of taking Chinese herbs is a decoction (tea), prepared by cooking raw herbs in fresh water. In addition, there are capsules, powdered granules, and tinctures of patent formulas available as a time-saving convenience.

The practice of Chinese herbal medicine is both a precise science and a powerful healing tradition.
